Welcome to Scoil Crochán Naofa or Caherdaniel NS website.

We are a rural primary school situated on the Ring of Kerry road near the tiny historical village of Caherdaniel in the heart of the Iveragh Peninsula. We are surrounded by outstanding natural beauty from majestic heights of the mountains to deep blue expanses of the Atlantic ocean.

Caherdaniel is rich in historical sites and cultural heritage. Derrynane House was the much loved home place of the Liberator, Daniel O’ Connell. Skellig Michael, one of Ireland’s most important and remote early Christian monastic sites is 8 miles from the shore of Derrynane. Staigue Fort at Castlecove is a fine example of a stone fort.

Parts of Caherdaniel are in the Gaeltacht and as a result there is a rich store of Irish traditional customs and practices. Traditions such as the Biddy and the Capall are alive and well. There is also a great love of the Irish language, many of the children’s grandparents would have spoken Irish at home when they were young.
