Senior Room Completes Procedural Writing with a Sweet Halloween Treat!

The Senior Room has just finished an exciting unit on procedural writing, also known as instructional writing. This genre is all about giving clear, step-by-step instructions to help others complete a task or recipe, follow a set of rules, or make something on their own.

Students learned how important it is to use “bossy verbs” like stir, cut, measure, dip, spread, and sprinkle—verbs that give precise, direct commands to guide the reader.

Procedural writing is a valuable skill that helps in real-life situations, such as following recipes, completing DIY projects, and even understanding safety instructions. As a fun way to apply their learning, the class made Halloween-themed chocolate apples with sprinkles, putting their procedural skills into practice.

This hands-on activity reinforced their understanding of the genre, letting them see just how useful—and tasty!—procedural writing can be. Great job, Senior Room! 🍏🍫✨
