St. Brigid’s Day🙏 ⛪️

We recently embraced one of Ireland’s most cherished traditions by engaging our senior students in the craft of making St. Brigid’s Crosses. This activity, held in honor of St. Brigid’s Day, was not only a celebration of Irish culture and heritage but also a hands-on learning experience that connected our students with an important aspect of our history & folklore.

St. Brigid’s Crosses, made from rushes are a symbol of protection and blessing, deeply rooted in Irish tradition. Pupils were guided by staff members in this craft, learned the history and significance of these crosses, as well as the technique to create them.

The activity was a wonderful opportunity for students to work together in pairs or small groups, fostering a sense of community and teamwork. Each cross made was a testament to the patience and care put into its creation, embodying the spirit of St. Brigid, known for her generosity and kindness.

Many pupils took their handmade crosses home, extending the blessings and traditions to their families.

This experience was more than just a craft project; it was a meaningful connection to our past and a celebration of our collective identity. We enjoy making this activity a yearly tradition at Caherdaniel NS.
